The Dubai Government Human Resources Department (DGHR) issued a circular on Thursday
announcing that all government entities, departments and institutions will observe a holiday on Friday,
September 5, 2025, in commemoration of the birthday of Prophet Muhammad.
The circular added that official work in Dubai will resume on Monday, September 8, 2025.
Earlier this week, the Federal Authority for Government Human Resources announced that September 5
will be the designated public holiday for employees in both the private and public sectors. This means
that workers will enjoy a three-day weekend to commemorate the occasion.
The Prophet Muhammad’s birthday, celebrated on the 12th of Rabi Al-Awwal, the third month of the
Islamic calendar, is widely recognized across many Islamic nations, including those in the Gulf region.
These countries, including the UAE, typically mark the day with a national holiday.
The confirmation of the Prophet’s birthday holiday date in Dubai and across the UAE comes in light of
the recent sighting of the crescent moon, signaling the beginning of Rabi Al-Awwal, the third month of
the Islamic Hijri calendar. In a statement shared on X, FAHR provided details regarding the holiday’s
commencement.
