Mendelssohn: Violin Concerto
The melody that opens Felix Mendelssohn's Violin Concerto in E Minor, once
heard, is never forgotten. Other composers begin their concertos with an orchestral
introduction before the soloist comes in. Not Mendelssohn here: the violin come
straight in with a plangent, surging melody that immediately grips the listener.
