What red-blooded car enthusiast doesn’t love the thrill of going full
throttle and catching some serious G’s? On the fi nal morning of the
Summit, the air was thick with excitement as a large group of both show
attendees and everyday builders lined up for the opportunity to run their
home-built rides of every type and description on the legendary Bristol
Motor Speedway track. It was truly an opportunity of a lifetime for many.
Just pulling up to the entry gates as group and looking out over what the
Speedway calls, “The Last Great Colosseum” stirred the stomachs of the
excited participants. The steepness of the track itself was unnerving as
they headed down to the pit. After a brief instructional drivers’ meeting
they were off. They ran several groups of about fi ve cars at a time behind
a pace car. The sight and the sounds of all that home-built ingenuity,
rust and horsepower roaring around the track was absolutely thrilling.
However, the enormous grins, high fi ves and whooping and hollering from
the excited drivers was really what this epic moment was all about.
Rat Rod Magazine would like to give a sincere “Hats Off” to Holston
River Brewing Company, Thunder Mountain Campground, Sparks Speed
Shop, Bristol Motor Speedway and all involved with unleashing such an
action-packed weekend of incredible and unapologetic rat rod and home
built culture and lifestyle at its best!
