With our chassis completed, we shoved a 4”
x 4” through the window openings to safely lift the
body onto the frame.
In the front, notches were cut into the firewall
for the body to sit over the frame. In the back, it
took a series of L brackets to mount it to the frame
and one piece of bar stock across the extreme
rear. Another set of 1/4” thick, 2” wide straps were
spaced every 12”. This firms up the body and gives
a bed for sheet metal to lay in.
To clarify all of these steps we only completed
after standing back and studying the profile of
the Rod to see if it sat too high or too low. This
is the time to get all of that right. We wanted a
slight rake toward the front so we sat everything
level without drive train. The drive train will
automatically drive the front end down 2”. I
realize some set the drive train and steering before
the body is set. The reason I don’t is because I
want control over where that steering box sits
and motor sits in relation to the body. Have you
ever seen a Hot Rod where the steering box is in
