                                                                                   Local Denny Moore lived for dirt track
                                                                                   racing, but gave it up in 1968 to start a
                                                                                   family. Denny’s son Kevin built a replica
                                                                                   of Denny’s ‘56 Ford that he had tons of
                                                                                   success in back in the day. Denny took
                                                                                   a few hot laps in the ‘56 – his fi rst time
                                                                                   on a track in almost 50 years. Better yet,
                                                                                   Denny’s granddaughter hit the track in
                                                                                   a specially-prepped Ford Falcon and
                                                                                   Denny soon took off after her.
                                                                                     The fairgrounds must be some
                                                                                   sort of automotive fountain of youth
                                                                                   because the burnout contest was won
                                                                                   by 80-year-old Carl Peck, Jr. In a ‘40
                                                                                   Ford woodie. His son entered the ‘50’s
                                                                                   Anglia that dad raced back in the day –
                                                                                   powered by the same vintage fl athead
                                                                                   loaded with period speed equipment
                                                                                   when his dad raced it.
                                                                                     An added benefi t to all of these
                                                                                   shenanigans is that $10,000 was raised
                                                                                   for It’s About the Warrior, auctioning off
                                                                                   artwork supplied by local artists.
