The event is still a great time, and worth the effort....
but not really rat friendly anymore.
On the other hand, Zane Cox’s Helltrain Hootenanny
in Blue Ridge was a free-for-all of rust and debauchery.
The day began as a Poker Run from a local brewery
to Zane’s home shop. The fun continued with great
garage music by the incredible Justin Pickard and the
Thunderbird Winos and a house full of tattoo artists
buzzing away. Country road burnouts and gasoline
fueled shenanigans gave way to tornadic activity as
the clouds literally swirled overhead. At one point I
slipped away to take pictures of some rusty trucks on
the property. Surrounded by corn fi elds and cows, I
witnessed a funnel cloud drop down from the sky, only
to quietly dissolve into the ether. The party goers were
having such a good time that they didn’t notice. .... but
I don’t mind saying that my drawers needed changing
before I crawled back in Myrtle for the trip home.
