f you’ve been to the RatCity Rukkus, then
you’ve seen Patrick Watson. He’s a founding
member of the host club, the JunkYard Pirates
Iand the MC of the Rukkus. And it’s his ’29
Hudson that helped create them both.
Patrick fi rst got the Hudson on the road in early 2005. He brought
it and some other hot rods he owned to a certain, high-profi le car
show in Las Vegas that promotes ‘traditional’ builds. He left in the
Hudson to get some friends and upon
returning, was not allowed back in due
to his independent front suspension.
Disappointed but not deterred,
he stuck around for the show
to enjoy the other cars he had
brought, but vowed never to
return to that ‘other’ show. In fact,
he and a few friends decided to
have a little party of their own the
next year on the same weekend
for them and others that received the
same negative treatment. That party in a
bar parking lot soon grew to be an actual car show and eventually to
the event that we call the RatCity Rukkus. As for the creation of the
JunkYard Pirates, Patrick’s work as a stuntman landed him a role as
an extra in the original ‘Pirates of the Caribbean’ movie. Plus, he and
his buddies were always at the junkyard looking for parts. One day
somebody said something about how they were always ‘pirating the
junkyard’ and it just stuck.
