followed by an ersatz cop car. The fastest time and fewest broken jars was
the winner. But the main attraction on the track was the vintage dirt track
cars. Ed invited two groups of vintage racers: The Pennsylvania Vintage
Dirt Modifi eds and the Vintage American Race Cars club. Both clubs
feature authentic 1930’s and 1940’s-era dirt track cars. Plans for next year
include adding a fl at six/fl athead class, a stock driveline class, and an open
class, all requiring the cars to be pre-1964.
But cars were just part of the deal. If you wanted to get a shave from
an honest-to-goodness barber? It was included in the admission. An old-
school razor haircut? Included. The ladies got in on the deal, too. They
could get free pinup-style hair and makeup, buy vintage clothing, and then
do a free photoshoot to make the transformation complete. In fact, two
different women showed up with no intention of entering the show’s Miss
Rockabilly Ruckus pinup contest. They took advantage of the free hair and
makeup, and placed fi rst and third in the contest, the third-place winner
being a 51-year-old grandmother. There was even a Junior Miss Ruckus
contest for the younger crowd.
