Mike had a shop (affectionately known as Dirt Leg
Customs), skills, and the desire to build it, so what else do you
need besides possibly the help of a few friends? Once he had a
plan in place, every spare moment he had went into creating
this ’51 Ford F-6. When your job is traveling around the
world at a moment’s notice to fi x industrial turbines, those
spare moments are few and far between.
The roof has been chopped 6.5”, which in most cars
and trucks puts the squeeze on the passengers. But these
old cabs were so big that there’s still tons of room, so
you can look cool and see at the same time. Make note
that this was Mike’s fi rst chop and it came out pretty well.
So to any prospective builders out there, don’t be afraid
to try. There’s an air speed gauge inside
that serves as the speedometer.
What’s cool about it is that it’s
identical to the gauge in
Charles Lindberg’s ‘Spirit of
St. Louis’ as he pioneered
trans-Atlantic fl ight. Even
cooler was that a buddy
