For the uninitiated, the Rukkus is a show with some-
thing for everybody and celebrates ALL vehicles. There
are lots of rats for sure, but classes exist for pretty
much anything on wheels, including bicycles. Las Vegas
is a car-crazy city, and the Rukkus has become a must-
see show not only for the locals, but also for gear-
heads from all over the country and Canada. Besides
the usual Minnesota/Canada contingents, there were
groups from New Mexico, Nebraska, Texas, Oregon, and
Montana just to name a few participating states.
The fun began on Friday night as usual at Vamp’d,
(owned by Danny Koker, of ‘Counting Cars’ fame) a bar
and nightclub just a few miles west of the Strip. This
is traditionally the last night to enter the Miss Rukkus
garage girl contest. It’s also the night that our hosts,
the JunkYard Pirates get to relax before a hard day
of work running the show the next day. The parking
lot becomes a car show of its own, while West Sahara
Boulevard becomes a showcase for those with an itch
to expeditiously burn some hydrocarbons.
When we say that this was a show for everybody we
really meant it. Did you need a Tiki statue carved? Billy
Crud was out there doing his thing. Need something
pinstriped? Just see our hometown hero, Travis Roach.
