SISK
INNOVATION In November, Sisk achieved recertification to the
AWARDS ISO-50001 Energy Management Standard. Being one of
the first ISO-50001 certified Energy Management Systems
in the industry, it remains innovative on a global level and
2018 demonstrates leadership in energy efficiency and
sustainability.
Streamlining of the energy management system has led
Streamlining
to a benefits realisation of 2,500 man hours per annum. A
recent revision of the ISO-50001 standard will put further
constraints on the company to demonstrate verifiable
improvements in energy consumption.
The coming months will see measures put in place to
The
achieve these savings such as a trial of electric vehicles
as company cars, an electric car sharing scheme, the
use of telematics on site machinery and further trials of
innovative solutions such as modular and hybrid
generators.
In In December a trial of telematics on site plant on the
Dunkettle Interchange project commenced. Using
telematics will allow us to effectively measure and
monitor the use of site fuel on all projects. Given that over
50 per cent of all energy consumed by the business is
through diesel used on sites, the measurement of how
this is used is vital to assist in the identification of
inefficient processes and the implementation of energy
inefficient
conservation measures.
From January 2019, all Sisk electricity in the UK and
Ireland will be procured from renewable sources. This will
lead to a carbon emissions reduction of 1,405 tonnes of
CO2, reducing the company’s overall emissions by 10
per cent – the equivalent of 300 cars being taken off the
road.
Our Energy Manager Ian O’Connor will also continue to
Our
tour sites to raise awareness of energy management
within the business and to provide assistance with any
energy related matters. Ian can be contacted at:
