do, is it? They’re supposed to grow. And they’re supposed to keep growing until they stop growing. And when they stop growing they die.
As I look back at my life, I realize that all too often I’ve been far too much like the seed lying on the warm floor than the seedling in the pot! Not so much in later life, but certainly for vast stretches of my earlier life. If I was comfortable, I didn’t want to move!
The trouble with this mindset is that no one else is going to move you. We all have to paddle our own canoe. If you sit back and rest, then by default you’ll begin to drift along with the flow instead of where you actually want to go. And water only ever flows downhill!
My friend and mentor, John Maxwell, says that everything worth having is uphill. And I think that most of us can recognize and accept that when we stop and think about it. When we’re comfortable, we don’t spend too much time thinking about what we want, where it is or how we can get it. Instead, we focus on what we don’t want and worrying about losing what we have.
My friend’s son’s little tree has a very clear goal, to reach for the light. And this goal is pursued relentlessly every single day of its life. Little wonder it makes such great progress.
If we all had such clear objectives and pursued them continually, I’m sure we would astound ourselves with what we are capable of.
Why don’t more people make such great progress in their lives
