We learn. We gain insights. It’s all good, right? Then why is it that when many of us read these three words, we sort of internally brace ourselves. “Change? Uh-oh. Change means disruption. Disruption means disarray, uncharted territory, not knowing what to do! I like my daily routine. I like things to be predictable!”
Are you nodding your head in agreement? Most of us are. Although we know that growth requires healthy risk and change, moving forward often strikes terror in us.
The other day I was looking at a potted herb that sits in my windowsill. It’s grown considerably in the last six months and I’m actually pretty proud of the fact that it hasn’t died. I’m not particularly known for my green thumb. But as I looked at it, I had a mini-epiphany about change. My little rosemary plant was still in its original tiny pot I brought it home in. Turning it upside down I discovered little roots sticking out of the holes in the bottom of the pot. It doesn’t take an expert gardener to realize that this plant will only look healthy and lush for a short while longer. Without repotting, this root-bound little guy will eventually wither and die.
We’re a lot like this potted plant, aren’t we? As we’re traveling along this journey of becoming, we are growing and changing every day. As we come upon opportunities to step further into
our purpose and calling, we always have a decision to make. It’s
