Okay, now for the basics. What do you write in your journal and how do you write it?
Don’t let this part trip you up. Not starting because you’re unsure of how to do it will keep you from a practice that will unlock resources that will change your life, so don’t worry about journaling “correctly.” Just follow these steps:
1. Have a question or a problem in mind. Write it out just as if you were talking to a friend, because you are. When you journal, you’re accessing all the resources within you. You’re tapping in to the power of God in your life. You can write something as simple as “I feel anxious because I don’t know what to do about the decision to form a partnership. I need wisdom.”
2. Once I ask the question, I sit quietly and clear my mind for a few minutes. This will get easier to recognize over time. The best way I can explain it is that I feel like I have something to say, as if a response is bubbling up, but I’m not sure what it is.
3. AtthatpointIpickupmypenorputmyhandstothe keyboard and start writing. The act of “starting to write” is what starts the flow for me. As soon as I write those first two or three words, words and sentences start to come to me and I just write. When the flow stops, I stop. Never keep going to fill the page or because you think there should be more. Once you’re done writing, read it and see if it connects with your spirit. You’ll know if the words you wrote are right or not. You have an inner knowing, and it will feel right. Trust your gut.
