289 circumstances which a man encounters with blessedness are
290 the result of his own mental harmony. Blessedness, not
291 material possessions, is the measure of right thought;
292 wretchedness, not lack of material possessions, is the
293 measure of wrong thought. A man may be cursed and rich;
294 he may be blessed and poor. Blessedness and riches are only
295 joined together when the riches are rightly and wisely used;
296 and the poor man only descends into wretchedness when he
297 regards his lot as a burden unjustly imposed.
298 Indigence and indulgence are the two extremes of
299 wretchedness. They are both equally unnatural and the result
300 of mental disorder. A man is not rightly conditioned until he
301 is a happy, healthy, and prosperous being; and happiness,
302 health, and prosperity are the result of a harmonious
303 adjustment of the inner with the outer, of the man with his
304 surroundings.
305 A man only begins to be a man when he ceases to whine and
306 revile, and commences to search for the hidden justice which
