Dan is survived by his sone Steve (Mona) Sandel;
brother, Bill (Melverta) Sandel; granddaughters,
Cali (Chris) Sandel, Katherine Amanda (Nick)
Sandel, Cameron (Justin) Moore, McKenzie
Sandel and Jesicca Carder as well as many loving
nieces, nephews, and cousins.
He was predeceased by his wife of over 60
wonderful years, Marie Sandel; beloved son,
Warren (Lisa) Sandel; brother, Joe Sandel and
sisters, Lee Lindler and Edith Creel.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm on
Saturday, December 17, 2022, at St. Thomas
Lutheran Church with interment to follow in the
church cemetery. The family will receive friends
one hour prior to the service in the church
fellowship hall.

William Hynds Obituary
March 11, 1928-December 5, 2020
Signal Mountain, Tennessee – Willaim Benjamin
Hynds (“Bill”), age 92, passed away peacefully
December 5, 2020, in Signal Mountain,
Tennessee. He was surrounded by loved ones.
His memorial service will be held Saturday, June
26, 11:00am at Bethel United Methodist Church in
Columbia, SC.
Bill was born March 11, 1928 in Sumter, SC to
Wallace Gourley Hynds, Sr. and Lucile Thompson

arts from Wofford College in 1949. Upon
graduation, he entered the United States Army
and discovered a talent for teaching, which would
lead to his professional career. While serving in
the Army, he met his bride-to-be, Nancy Anne
Barrington, on a blind date and married her in
1953.
Over 12 years, he taught high school math,
received two master’s degrees, and had 4 children
– Ben (deceased), Jim, Stan, and Kerry. After
moving to Columbia in 1966, he became Head of
High School Math Curriculum for the SC State
Department of Education, where he was
employed until 1993. At that time, he and his
loving wife enjoyed extensive travel during the
summers to many parts of the US, Canada, and
Europe.
Bill was known for his incredible baritone singing
voice as early as high school, performing for Glee
Club events and church-related services for many
years. He was also highly skilled at counted cross-
stich and handcrafted many creations as gifts for
others, even receiving a Blue Ribbon the one year
he decided to enter the SC State Fair. For much
of his adult life, Bill was a cane-pole-and-crickets
fisherman. But when fly-fishing became his new
passion, he dropped many handmade flies into
the streams of Colorado.
Perhaps most people remember Bill as being the

biggest fan of the 12 -13 c. math scholar,
Fibonacci. During his career, Bill traveled
throughout SC to offer his “Math and Nature”
presentation, which used the Fibonacci system of
numbers to show the Golden Ratio found in
architecture and nature. He firmly believed the
Fibonacci system was the connecting language
between God and Nature. In later years, he turned
to woodworking in his downstairs wood shop to
make Fibonacci projects with pinecones.
