Dear SCCTM Members and South Carolina Mathematics Educators,
On behalf of the 2024 SCCTM Conference Planning Committee, I am thrilled to welcome
you to the 48th annual South Carolina Council of Teachers of Mathematics Annual
Business Meeting and Conference, being held in Columbia, South Carolina! This year’s
theme, "Stop, Collaborate, & Listen: Thinking Mathematically Together," sets the stage for an exciting
and transformative experience focused on collaboration and shared growth in mathematics education.
The conference team has worked tirelessly to build a program that offers diverse opportunities for
learning and professional development, with 250 dynamic and inspiring sessions. We are excited to
have you come to Columbia November 20-21, 2024, for an inspiring two days of professional learning,
reflection, and collaboration.
Our planning committee has crafted a powerful collection of sessions and opportunities designed to
help us think mathematically together. Like the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics (NCTM),
SCCTM emphasizes making connections—between mathematical concepts, other disciplines, and real-
life applications. This year, we also focus on how we, as educators, can strengthen our collaborative
efforts and support one another to better serve our students. The 2024 conference is an opportunity
for all of us to come together, share insights, and think more deeply about mathematics in our
classrooms.
Our keynote speakers, educational leaders India White and Juli Dixon, will inspire and challenge us
to collaborate in new ways. They will offer valuable insights on how to build meaningful
partnerships and foster mathematical thinking across our schools, districts, and communities.
The SCCTM Board is excited to see you at the conference. After many months of virtual and email
exchanges, we are eager to meet in person once again. During the conference, you’ll have the
chance to both share your expertise and learn from others. Together, we’ll build a stronger, more
reflective, and engaged community of mathematics educators, united in our commitment to
advancing mathematics education across South Carolina.
We look forward to welcoming you to Columbia for this fantastic event. Here’s to a rewarding
experience of learning, collaborating, and growing at SCCTM 2024!
Warm regards,
Cindy Parker, M.Ed.
