Making Math Matter: It’s a Way of Life with Infinite Possibilities
This session provides middle and high school teachers with concept-based methods for teaching and solving quadrac
equaons. Parcipants will (a) derive the quadrac formula to understand its raonale, (b) use sum-and-product
relaonships of roots to analyze and solve equaons, (c) pracce a new method for solving quadrac equaons (an
addional problem-solving strategy), and (d) explore quick graphical and spreadsheet verificaon techniques. The focus
is on classroom-ready acvies, differenaon, and formave assessments so teachers can go beyond memorizaon to
promote student understanding and confidence. Grades Middle to High School

The Vanishing Point Between Art and Mathemacs
We will explore connecons between mathemacs and art, including the historical development of linear
perspecve in painng and its relaonship to projecve geometry. Potenal classroom applicaons will also

Make it Scky (PK-5)
Research in cognive science shows that learning occurs when students have a strong framework on which to
hang new knowledge. Math educators can leverage coherence and real-world knowledge to support students
in construcng this framework. This session highlights the vital role of knowledge-building curricula in math
classrooms. Grades PreK - 5
