Making Math Matter: It’s a Way of Life with Infinite Possibilities

Mission Possible: Making Sense of Probability Part 1

Engage students in probability through hands-on, interacve tasks that build understanding and math
language. Explore strategies using spinners, coins, and real-world contexts. Experience student-centered
acvies that foster reasoning, data analysis, and collaboraon for all learners in two 25-minute
                                                    sessions. Grades 3 – 5

Wanda Noblin, Spartanburg District Three - Cowpens Elementary

                                        Session 179 will be held in 103 from 12:00 - 12:25.

Using spiral graphs to introduce middle & high school students to higher mathemacs

This interacve presentaon will use spiral graphs to show how we can introduce mathemacs concepts
taught in advanced college math courses to middle and high school students. We will use these graphs to
show students that mathemacs can be fun, excing and to spur their interest in higher mathemacs
including number theory and algebra. College

Elham Sohrabi, University of South Carolina Upstate

Dr. Scot Sykes, University of West Georgia

                                       Session 180 will be held in 104A from 12:00 - 12:25.

Required Tutoring: Evidence, Outcomes, and Implicaons

This presentaon will address the issue of anxiety and poor performance in math by studying the
effecveness of implemenng required tutoring as a strategy to increase confidence, enjoyment, overall
success, and test averages in math classes. Grades 10 – 12, Post-Secondary
                                               Emily Thomas, Charleston Southern University

                                               Ryan Thomas, Charleston Southern University

                                       Session 181 will be held in 104 B from 12:00 - 12:25.
