Polyethylene terephthalate, commonly
abbreviated to PET is a thermoplastic polymer
resin of the polyester family, it is a petroleum
based plastic.
It is most often used in synthetic fibers, as a
material for plastic bottles and food containers,
or as a recycled polyester fabric for bags and
clothing.
While petroleum based, PET is readily recycled in
the UK, it is collected, then shredded into small
flakes which are then reprocessed to make new
PET products.
