Approximately 6,000 full-time and reserve Defence personnel are based in Western Australia, supported by approximately 11,000 industry employees in over 180 businesses. Defence re- lated activity contributes an estimated $3 billion dollars to the Western Australian economy. A significant feature of the de- fence industry sector in WA involves the through-life support, repair and upgrade of the Collins Class submarines and Anzac Frigates.
