LOCAL OPPORTUNITIES
SIDEL sees plenty of opportunities in Australia and the region for its cobot solutions, with one spokesperson highlighting the balance the manufacturer offers between small and large enterprises.
“Sidel’s portfolio is built around offering packaging equipment solutions to accommodate the needs of small and medium sized businesses in their first steps towards automating their manufacturing operations with affordable solutions on the one hand, as well as the needs of larger organisations trying to improve the level asset utilisation towards optimising production costs on the other hand.
“Accordingly, this opens up a wide variety of opportuni- ties for us to support manufacturers across the markets in the Australasian region,” the spokesperson says.
These two needs are not mutually exclusive, Sidel adds, especially when it comes to automating palletisation.
“Such investments, however, can sometimes be more challenging to justify due to low added value of palletising tasks, which often leaves workers con- strained to perform these physically demanding operations themselves,” the spokesperson says.
The CoboAccess_Pal solution is billed as an affordable palletiser that is compact, safe, and easy to operate.
The human-machine interface (HMI) is based on a tablet approach to navigation, and allows operators to access standard operating proce- dures (SOP) and maintenance sheets for faster and easier root cause analy- sis and troubleshooting tasks. The setup has also been validated by Apave, and is fully compliant with European Machinery Directive 2006/42/EC.

It was imperative that the same level of safety would be maintained after switching from manual labour to a cobotic technology.” – Cédric Rey, Nestlé
To ensure maximum protection, CoboAccess_Pal always handles cas- es above the conveyor or pallet sta- tion, preventing them from ever fall- ing on the floor, according to Cristol.
“Not less important, CoboAc- cess_Pal is easy to install. At the factory in Orbe, it took one week in- cluding commissioning time; plus it can be easily moved between lines in less than ten minutes,” he adds.
Following the success at Nestlé, Sidel has expanded its cobotic palletising range with the Co- boAccess_Pal M, which incorpo- rates a Fanuc CR-15iA robotic arm allowing a higher payload at six cycles per minute. According to Sidel, the unit is equipped with distributed control system soft- ware and safe contact stop tech- nology, which the company says makes it more industrial and ex- pands its scope of applications and market categories. ■
