History:
Authored and developed by former Principal Artist of The Australian Ballet Christine Walsh, AM, founded the Australian Conservatoire of Ballet (ACB) to give classical ballet students the opportunity to train in the Russian Vaganova based method
from five years of age. Drawing on her professional experience, Walsh adapted the existing eight-year Vaganova method into a 12-year training and examination program to suit the needs of ballet students training in a part-time situation. Since its inception, the success of the ACB syllabus has led to teacher seminars, conventions, examination
sessions, study tours, scholarships, job placements, workshops and dance festivals. The ACB now has more than 300 teachers in Australia, India, Taiwan, Macau, Hong Kong, Singapore, Japan, United Kingdom and the Philippines taking part in the program, some of whom use this program to enhance the existing method they are already teaching. Due to the international scope of this program, in 2018 it was renamed Ballet Conservatoire (BC).
As a result of the ACB’s intensive training program, ACB graduate students have been or are currently on scholarships in international ballet schools such as Royal Ballet School, Hamburg Ballet School, John Cranko Ballet School, Dutch National Ballet Academy and employed with the Royal Ballet, American Ballet Theatre, Dutch National Ballet, Norwegian National Ballet, Houston Ballet, Staatsoper Berlin and Badisches Staatstheater Karlsruhe, The Australian Ballet, Queensland Ballet and West Australian Ballet, and other international ballet and dance companies.
