CONVERTING: GM
The DC350Nano is a 350mm web width converter, designed for small spaces. It is an all-in-one solution with lamination, die-cut, and rewind as standard. The company says
it is capable of processing up to
45 linear metres per minute in semi-rotary die-cutting mode, with precision cutting to reduce waste, and accurate processing, over a wide range of substrates. It is designed for label converters with a small digital press, or as a backup to an existing finishing line.
The DC330Mini is the next step
up, with a web width of 330mm. It is the latest generation of digital label finishing, redesigned to feature new electronics, a newly designed control panel, and an updated user interface. It runs at 80 linear metres per minute in semi rotary mode. The Mini is 2,700mm long, which the company says gives it “a small footprint compared to other solutions.”
Options available include super gloss, spot UV varnishing, hot or cold foiling, lamination, semi-rotary die-cutting, slitting, and rewind. The Mini is a modular system, making
it expandable to scale as needed, with new modules able to be added within hours.
CONVERTING: PRATI
Prati has a wide range of label finishing solutions in its Satrun and Jupiter ranges, and Alhena for IML. Its solution for finishing digitally printed labels is Digifast, which has a 90m/ min running in semi-rotary mode with registered die-cutting, all to a tolerance of ± 0.10mm.
Options include a re-registration lamination unit for producing coupons and sandwich labels.
Digifast one is modular, available with SD or DS configurations and allows the installation of additional processing units as needed. Thanks
to intuitive controls and a series of intelligent structural features that reduce
total set-up times to just eight minutes, Digifast one increases productivity beyond current standards and ensures machining accuracy with tolerances of 0.15 mm. The waste material is limited to a few meters per job.
WORKFLOW:
EPRODUCTIVITY SOFTWARE The eProductivity Software Packaging Suite is designed to streamline the production process with purpose-built, end-to-end workflow software specifically
for the tag and labels industry.
It is built with industry-specific
core capabilities for the tag and label industry. As one of the only purpose-built software for the tag and label industry, the company, which was formerly EFI’s software division says the technology will “transform how you interact with your customers, manage data, track jobs, ship products, and make decisions helping you unlock your full revenue and profit potential.”
It says its industry certified workflows address real world situations to deliver higher efficiencies, improved throughput and sustainable process and
profit improvement throughout the enterprise. Each workflow, consisting of a core Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) solution and multiple value-added Suite components, has been designed, built, and tested
to ensure all integrations have passed rigorous certified testing and deployment standards.
EMBELLISHING: MGI JETVARNISH 3D WEB COLOR+ Coming more from the digital (inkjet) side of the business is MGI, which has launched the JETvarnish 3D Web Color+ machine. The core of the
unit is inkjet-based spot and tactile effects including digital varnish and foiling, inline semi-rotary die-cutting, slitting and rewinding.
In addition, users can add a printing unit which, via a re-register system, allows overprinting of foil with CMYK toner to create a wide range of tints and hues, as well as precise spot coats to match colours generated from previous digital printing operations.
The JETvarnish 3D Web Color+
Labels technology: Rapidly developing in converting, embellishing, materials, and software from

is available in 330mm web widths with in-line printing, and 420 mm without the four-colour toner unit. Production speed for four-colour varnish and foil is between 10-20m/ min, and, for just varnish and foil, up to 42m/min. A UV flexo module is optionally available.
EMBELLISHING:
KURZ DM LUXLINER
Kurz DM-Luxliner is a UV-free metallisation system. It uses printed output from toner-based digital presses – and HP’s ElectroInk –
as the adhesive for the foil, which
means additional adhesives are not required. Kurz says it
runs at up to 2,400 B2 sheets per hour.
DM-Luxliner uses Kurz’s Digital Metal system which combines the software, the machine and different types of foil. The foil can be over-
printed and it can also be used as an alternative to metallised papers or cardboards. According to Kurz the DM Luxliner is easy to set up and use.
