                Revolution in Print
The 585x750mm press can handle the same stock thicknesses as the original KM-1; 0.06-0.6mm. It has new media sensors to help it support a wider range of substrates.
Kodak Prosper Ultra
Kodak is making a major move into inkjet presses, targeting the commercial print and publishing markets with new high-resolution, high-speed system Kodak Prosper Ultra 520, using its Ultrastream print heads.
There are two versions of the press: the Ultra P520 for publishing applications with lower ink coverage requirements, and Ultra C520 for commercial print applications with higher ink coverage. The Ultra C520 comes with additional drying in
the form of four drying units for printing on standard offset papers.
Kodak says the Ultra C520 delivers offset-like quality at a consistent production speed of 150 meters a minute on glossy papers with high ink coverage and variable print. The Ultra C520 will print at full speed on paper from 45-270gsm; the P520 on
Details are yet to be released,
but Print21 understands the new Ricoh Pro Z75 will be promoted as printing at offset quality, which will be achieved through Ricoh’s own printhead, aqueous ink, and dynamic drop size technology.
The new Ricoh Pro Z75 will be Ricoh’s first sheetfed inkjet press, although it has been manufacturing market-leading high speed inkjet web presses for the past decade, with the latest version the Pro VC70000. Ricoh’s inkjet head technology
is used in OEM deals by multiple technology developers.
For the new Pro Z75, Ricoh will use its proven paper transport, auto- duplexing, and drying technology, together with a new digital front end, with the press designed to be simple to operate.
The new Pro Z75 will be aimed squarely at the commercial market, with applications including commercial print, direct mail, books, manuals, specialty publishing, and packaging. It will print six-up on the B2 sheet.
Xeikon SX20000
Digital print solutions developer Xeikon has bolstered its graphic arts and commercial product portfolio with the launch of the Xeikon
Above
SX20000 digital colour press. According to Xeikon, the new
SX20000 has “a high level of application flexibility”, and it
says this “versatile press” will suit printers working in the production
of high-quality books and direct mail, PoS materials, security
print and general commercial
print applications. It prints at the equivalent of 1700 B2 sheets an hour.
Trevor Crowley, general manager
of sales at Xeikon ANZ says, "The new Xeikon SX20000 has all the benefits of the SX30000, with its high resolution, and ability to print on any substrate without priming, but comes in at a lower investment level. It is scalable though. It means that a print business can start off with the 20 metres a minute SX20000, then as business grows can add an extra 50 per cent productivity to 30 metres a minute, without having to add an extra shift or invest in a second printer."
The new SX20000 is able to run
at a printing width of 508mm,
on a broad range of substrates at 1200x3600dpi, at speeds of 20m/ min or 1700 B2 sheets an hour.
Canon imagePress
C10010VP
Canon Australia has launched
the imagePress C10010VP series, comprising two new digital colour press printer models – imagePress C10010VP and imagePress C9010VP – which it says are designed to drive versatility, high-quality imaging, and productivity for high-volume print.
Built on Canon’s proven imagePress technology platform, and featuring enhanced automation and extensive media handling capabilities, Canon says the toner- based imagePress C10010VP
are aimed at commercial print

45-160gsm, while at heavier weights this version may need to decrease speed. Kodak claims it is all at the industry’s lowest cost of operation.
Both versions of the Ultra are rated to print up to 60 million A4 pages a month. Both print with the 600x1800dpi resolution Ultrastream printhead, which Kodak says is the equivalent of 200lpi offset. It fires water-based inks on all media that has been coated using the inline coating module
Ricoh Pro Z75
Imaging giant Ricoh will be launching a B2 sheetfed inkjet
press this year, with the aqueous inkjet technology delivering instant drying, and printing onto coated and uncoated offset stocks, as well as inkjet stocks.
