     FATTY MATTERS
Bionetix International’s Eco-Trap is a grease trap treatment that contains special additives to loosen and liquefy heavy grease deposits, which speeds up degradation. The treatment reduces fat, oil and grease (FOG) accumulation, biological oxygen demand (BOD), bad odours, and prevents emergency blockages.
The solution works for food-processing facilities and food service environments.
Eco-Trap uses biological nutrients and stimulants to increase the natural bacteria colony population to promote FOG breakdown. The more beneficial bacteria present in grease traps, the more ability it has to break down fats, oils and greases filling up.
The treatment helps resolve mechanical, compliance, and odour problems, and comes in three different forms:
• Eco-Trap L – a liquid which can be automatically metered through a pump system;
• Eco-Trap P – a powder in water-soluble packets that can be added to the grease trap at the end of the day; and
• Eco-Trap Bloc – a slow-release block added to a less turbulent part of the trap for extended treatment.
In a fish canning factory that operated 24/7, the grease trap was overloaded due to the use of seawater in factory processes, with water totally obscured by a fat layer. The high chloride content was slowing the digestion of fats. After two months of Eco-Trap and Bionetix’s BCP22 (specific FOG treatment) the water surface had cleared by up to 70 per cent.
BEARINGS FOR CONVENIENCE
Technofast Industries’ EziTite split bearing setters reduce the maintenance time for conveyors and other materials handling machinery by removing the need to disassemble the equipment to replace or reset bearings.
Custom engineered for specific applications, the split bearing setters feature an e-skin flat energy supply system, dial gauge mounting point as standard, visible maximum stroke indicator, custom thread sizes, and designs for individual applications.
Technofast CEO John Bucknell said bearing manufacturers estimate poor fitting causes about 16 per cent of all bearings to fail prematurely.
“We developed the EziTite Bearing Setter range to employ precise hydraulic power to guide bearings into place effortlessly, providing optimum preload as required, giving safe, user-friendly operation with accurate bearing mounting and high repeatability to ensure reliability,” Bucknell said.
USE THE DIGITAL FORCE
Ametek’s force measurement equipment brand Chatillon has released its DF3 Series of digital force gauges. There are two models that are available in several capacities and with a sampling rate of 30 kHz. The gauges provide easy navigation with large easy-to-read full colour screens. Designed ergonomically with a stable grip, the rubber keypad ensures a single touch operation that corresponds to displayed options on the screen and guides the user during operation. Chatillon said the DF3 Series can optimise processes and save time.
Users can pre-define test setups, auto-save test results and automatically export them for further analysis through the test setup functionality. Its 40 hour battery life also makes it more reliable.
With an accuracy of 0.2 per cent of full scale, the DFE3 Series is designed for simple applications while maintaining functionality and is available in capacities from 0.5 lbf (2.5 N) to 500 lbf (2500 N). The DFS3 Series is a high-end gauge designed for basic and complex applications, with capacities from 0.5 lbf (2.5 N) to 500 lbf (2500 N) available. It has an accuracy of 0.1 per cent of full scale.
Supplied with durable carrying cases and adaptors, the DF3 Series also come installed with Chatillon’s ForceTest 3.0 software. Offering an improved interface, filtering options, raw data collection and presentation along with an in-depth library of test result options, the software interfaces directly to the DF3 Series force gauge. It also allows users to operate a personal computer to provide automatic performance testing, recording test graphs and data.
The setter has a simple and safe operating method.
It is screwed by hand onto the shaft or adaptor sleeve until the bearing’s inner race is tight against the base. The bearing is then driven onto its tapered mount by applying hydraulic pressure.
   KEEPING
THE TANKS
CLEAN
According to Alfa Laval,
its new PlusClean
cleaning nozzle delivers
100 per cent tank cleaning coverage and can save up to 80 per cent on water usage and cleaning costs. Alfa Laval global portfolio manager Tank Cleaning Janne Pedersen said using PlusClean in any tank cleaning process meant there was nowhere for contaminants to hide.
The PlusClean can be paired with a top-mounted tank cleaning device and installed flush with the tank wall or bottom. The cleaning spray nozzle features an optimised high-impact spray pattern which ensures total coverage. With a built-in adjustment function that makes installation easy and operation effective, the nozzle also gets into shadow areas such as beneath agitator blades.
Improving process efficiency, safety, and product quality, the nozzle helps companies achieve higher productivity and competitive advantage. PlusClean is available in three versions with the standard PlusClean supplied as a media spring-activated cleaning nozzle for hygienic process tank cleaning. There is also a pneumatic-driven version.
