Tips to Improve Emotional Health
Page 2 - 3
1. Maintain Hope & Positivity A
• When having a rough day, write down three positive things that
happened and see if it helps turn your day around. C
• Watch for the good in the evening news or social media feeds.
Create an internal blog or area where employees can share posi- T
tive news such as how their team navigated a difficult situation
given the crisis, an encouraging outcome, or similar news. I
2. Modify Expectations
• The pandemic has placed a considerable emotional load on every- O
one, and, frankly, it impacts productivity, not to mention having to
find new ways to work. Your employees may be struggling with N
completing daily tasks and staying focused on big projects.
3. Address Stress Daily S
• With everything that has transpired this year, emotions are varied
and can change dramatically from day-to-day. Don’t wait to ad-
dress the stress you might be feeling. Consider taking advantage
of the free resources offered by our EAP (Employee Assistance Pro- T
gram).
4. Lead with Compassion and Empathy O
• With so little we can control, it can be easy to minimize or forget
how much we impact others with our words and behaviors. Being
compassionate or empathetic during tough times may be challeng- T
ing because it could be assumed that we are all experiencing the
situation the same way and going through the same emotions. A
However, that couldn’t be farther from the truth. It will require
balance of compassion and empathy when dealing with the emo- K
tions of others, and our own.
5. Cultivate Meaningful Connections E
• Connecting to others and building or maintaining meaningful rela-
tionships is core to who we are as humans. Encourage yourself to
connect with fellow employees to see how they are doing or navi- N
gating challenges they may be experiencing.
