Directions : Read the following text.
Gending Sriwijaya is a traditional colossal dance from South Sumatra. It is
performed by nine girls wearing traditional clothes with paksangkong, dodot,
tanggai, and seledang mantri. The main dancer stands in front and carries a
tepak with sekapur sirih. She gives it to special guests to show respect.
Each dancer represents one of the nine rivers of South Sumatra. Three male
dancers hold umbrellas and spears to make the dance look grand and beautiful.
The dancers move slowly and gracefully. They bow, kneel, and move their fingers
while smiling. These movements show respect and kindness. The dance is usually
done with gamelan music and singing that expresses happiness and
thankfulness.
Nowadays, people perform this dance at weddings, special events, and
cultural festivals. Gending Sriwijaya teaches important values such as respect,
kindness, and unity. It also shows the happiness of young girls and the
importance of being thankful to God.
