SALLY HONG
We talked to Sally Hong who was instrumental in organizing and realizing one of the most iconic pieces of street art in the neighbor- hood and in New York.
When and how did you start your ca- reer in art?
Officially, my career in art started 3 years ago, but it can all trace back to a much earlier time. I went to the University of South California for college, and was planning to launch a career in the media industry. Somehow, I changed my mind after I took my first art history class in my sophomore year (the class was about arts and cultural movements in the 1960s in the US). I was so intrigued by that class and just wanted to learn more about the subject, so I ended up with art history as my second major. Like many
of my friends, I wanted to become a cura- tor and work at art museums. This led me to Washington DC where I did my mas- ter program in museum studies at George Washington University. I then started my internship as collections management as- sistant at Freer |Sackler museum, which after working there for a year, turned into position as contractor for the grand re- opening in 2018.
After my contract ended last January, I moved to New York for new opportu- nities. Again, I didn’t know that I would love public art, but my first job with Art- Bridge opened a door to this new field.
