there were so many unexpected things that had happened during the installation. At the beginning, there was some concern from the community that our project would affect some local businesses. However, as the project went on, peo- ple changed their attitudes as they understood that we did this project with good intentions and that we’re trying to revi- talize the area. So when Dongfan finished this 200 ft long mu- ral, wrote down this name with the title “The Song of Dragon and Flowers”, all the pedestrians and local shop owners were cheering.
Chinatown is a great spot for these projects and street art. Walk through the streets and you feel like you’re in the New York of the 1980s, like in the movies. It’s such an incredible neighborhood and one that I can see going strong when it comes to street art and emerging artists. Since I spent some time around the blocks of Chinatown I also got to know some small but incredible galleries there. It’s a very different vibe compared to Chelsea, Soho but even the Lower East Side.
