7. The Pronoun

Read the following sentences :

Mr Gupta is the warden of Udham Singh Hostel. Mr Gupta is loved by all the
students. The students gave Mr Gupta a present.

Now, read these sentences :

Mr Gupta is the warden of Udham Singh Hostel. He is loved by all the

students. They gave him a present.

,
So, the words he they and him are used in place of Mr Gupta and the
students to avoid repetition. They are called pronouns .

Words which are used in place of nouns are called pronouns.

Examples :

1. She is walking with her mother.
2. He went to play last evening.

3. Give me some milk in the glass.

4. I like Mahi because she is a nice girl.

Here, the words she , her , he , me , and she are all pronouns.
