8. The Adjective




          A  Adjective is a kind of word that modifies a noun. Noun are words that name a
          place, a person, a thing or an idea.


               Dear students! Now we will study the kinds of adjectives.

               1.  Adjectives of Quality :        Adjectives of quality tell us of what kind a person,

                   animal, place or thing is.

                   Examples : Intelligent       girl, small  village, holy   river, etc.


               2.  Adjectives of Quantity : Adjectives of quantity tell us how much of a thing is

                   intended.

                   Examples : Little     sugar, much      water, enough      money, etc.

               3.  Adjectives of Numbers :           Adjectives of numbers tell us how many persons,

                   animals, places or things are there, or in what order any of them stands.

                   Examples : Three       books, five    players, etc.


                   Adjective of numbers are of three kinds :

                   (a) Definite Numeral Adjectives           denote exact numbers of persons or things.


                   (b) Indefinite Numeral Adjectives            do not express an exact number.

                   (c) Distributive Numeral Adjectives            are considered the same as distributive

                       adjective.

               4.  Demonstrative Adjectives : An adjective used to refer to each and every

                   person’s thing separately is called demonstrative adjective.

                   Examples :      (a) This    is my pen.


                                    (b) Those     flowers are good.
