Collectible Bear
After the bear was adopted by The Fire Fighters Charity
his role was taken over by replica Bears. Replicas were
offered for sale to collectors. It’s not known how many
collectors took up the offer. To buy at £437 each in 1997.
It seems unbelievable that in 2018 when Merrythought
was contacted the company reported that they had kept
no history of the various editions and 1,000s of fire bears
that were produced by them over the last twenty years.
We rely on a bear’s guardian now and the collectors to
tell us their histories in relation to their Fire Bears.
Auctioneers keep records of course but the auctions
have to be reported or discovered before information
can be obtained as to a bear’s likely whereabouts.
The Fagan family are well known for their Teddy Bear
Auctions. Lucy sold her collection to fund her studies.
The hunt for the Original Founder Bear continues.
