Achilles tendon injuries can include:
• Achilles tendonitis is an injury
that can be associated with
sports that require jumping.
Some signs and symptoms of
Achilles tendonitis include pain
which is at its worst in the morn-
ing or at the beginning of activity.
Swelling can also be associated with tendonitis.
Treatment initially should include rest and ice.
Ankle movement is acceptable as long as there is
no pain associated with it. Also a heel lift can be
inserted into your shoe.
• Achilles tendon rupture is a more serious injury.
Typically the person reports hearing or feeling a pop
or a snap in the area of the Achilles tendon.
Decreased strength is associated with this injury.
Typically Achilles tendon ruptures are treated with
prolonged casting or surgically repaired, therefore,
your doctor should be contacted for proper diagnosis.
• Plantar Fasciitis, also
known as heel spurs,
is typically felt along
the bottom of the
