Childhood and Teenage Years

Paula Lyn Broussard was born in the summer of 1965 in Erath,
Louisiana. My parents and I called her “Paupee.” Our mom Geral-
dine “Gerry” Marie Falk and dad Rodney John Broussard raised us
in a three-bedroom brick house in Erath until Paula was in the fourth
grade and I was in the third.
As kids, Paula and I loved to play outside. We would visit my
grandmother in Lafayette who had brick-lined flowerbeds. There,
we’d catch rolly pollies and build
little homes inside holes we dug
for the bugs. When indoors, we
loved to play with Barbie dolls.
We also played with a group of
friends in our neighborhood.
The gang of six or seven of us
would cruise to the local pool on
our bikes every Saturday. From
about age three to six, Paula took
dancing at Betty Miller Dance
School in Erath.
