Course Description and Objectives:
This course provides an introduction into research methods and applica-
tions for field of compliant mechanisms. The course topics include PRBM
and continuum modeling approaches, analysis of elastic members,
material consideration, synthesis approaches via FACT, building block
methods and topology optimization. The course is intended for engineer-
ing graduate students, early-career engineering researchers or research-
ers from other disciplines that have interest in the field of compliant
mechanisms.
Course Topics:
• Historical overview and field of application for Compliant Mechanisms
• Modeling approaches (PRBM, Continuum method)
• Analysis of beams: intermediate / large deflection of elastic members
• Compliant Mechanism applications in diverse fields
• Synthesis via the FACT, building blocks methods
• Synthesis via PRBM
• Analysis of continuum members through FEA
• Synthesis via topology optimization
• Application - Design of Compliant Mechanism
