OPENStudio79 is an artists’ studio and shop in the neighborhood of Santa Catalina, in Palma de Mallorca, offering a curated selection of natural fiber yarns, artisanal products, craft magazines and workshops with the intention to promote hand crafting and infuse creativity into the local community.
WHAT ABOUT THOSE INSPIRED VALUES?
In 2013, I decided to open the doors of my studio to publicly share my passion for natural fibers, art and craft, and at the same time, offer a space for learning, inspiration and discovery. My main motivation is to help people get acquainted with their creative side! It's a great feeling when my walk-in customers are inspired to rekindle their knitting habits. Seeing them rejuvenated after an enjoyable workshop experience is amazing. There’s fulfilment in giving back to the community.
A STUDIO OPEN TO ALL?
On the WWKPD 2015 (World Wide Knit in Public Day), the regulars of OPENknits, a group I organize for evening knitting sessions in my studio, were in the midst of setting up outside the store when a young man walked over to us. He shared with us he felt uncomfortable knitting in public alone. We were happy to welcome him in our group. He’s now a loyal member of OPENknits and we hope to welcome more male members in the near future. We are just like a close-knit family! -x-
