Rule 2: Add an apostrophe (’) to form the possessive of plural nouns
that end in s.
Examples of Possessives of Plural Nouns
Ending in s
the cheers of the soccer fans = the soccer fans’ cheers
the lawn belonging to the Smiths = the Smiths’ lawn
the aroma of the flowers = the flowers’ aroma
Grammar Alert!
When a singular word ends in s, it is also acceptable to use
an apostrophe alone to make it possessive: Mr. Jones’ job,
Dickens’ novel, the boss’ office, the crabgrass’ rapid growth.
