Drawing on observation and her own experience as a shopper, this
writer divides shoppers into different categories.
Kinds of Shoppers
“Why do women love to shop?” my husband asks. I point
out that it’s a strange question from a man who, when it
comes to pulling out a credit card, is quicker on the draw
than a gunslinger in the Old West. I am convinced that
men, despite their protests to the contrary, enjoy
shopping as much as women do. But as a woman, I
know female shoppers and I believe I know what
motivates them. Some are bargain hunters, some are
pleasure seekers, and others are social shoppers.
For bargain hunters, shopping is a game of strategy and
skill, and saving money is the motivation. My friend
Renee is a perfect example of a bargain hunter. She
never shops without a plan. Her motto is, “Never pay full
price for anything.” This past October, when the breeze
picked up and the temperature dropped, we went
