               Classification Essay 1

Drawing on observation and her own experience as a shopper, this

writer divides shoppers into different categories.

                        Kinds of Shoppers

“Why do women love to shop?” my husband asks. I point

out that it’s a strange question from a man who, when it

comes to pulling out a credit card, is quicker on the draw

than a gunslinger in the Old West. I am convinced that

men, despite their protests to the contrary, enjoy
shopping as much as women do. But as a woman, I

know female shoppers and I believe I know what

motivates them. Some are bargain hunters, some are

pleasure seekers, and others are social shoppers.

For bargain hunters, shopping is a game of strategy and

skill, and saving money is the motivation. My friend

Renee is a perfect example of a bargain hunter. She

never shops without a plan. Her motto is, “Never pay full

price for anything.” This past October, when the breeze
picked up and the temperature dropped, we went
