Five Steps for Writing a
Research Paper
1 Follow the five steps for writing a research
paper.
As you write a research paper, you follow the familiar steps in the
writing process. Prewriting and planning take longer with a research
paper because research is now a part of those preliminary steps.
Drafting takes longer because each source must be acknowledged
and a Works Cited page prepared. Revision and proofreading are, as
always, the final steps in the process. The research paper provides
new challenges, but the methods remain the same.
