Compound subjects joined by and require a plural verb.



               Look at the following sentence:




                       Keisha and her brother (is, are) scheduled to arrive today.




               If you look at the sentence and ask how many will arrive, subject-verb
               agreement should be easy. More than one will arrive, so the logical

               choice is the plural verb are.




                       Keisha and her brother are scheduled to arrive today.
