                    Method 4: Semicolon and Joining




                    Word



                         Pattern: Independent clause; therefore, independent
                         clause.



                    A semicolon goes before the joining word, and a comma

                    follows it.


                    Exceptions: With the words thus and then, the comma is often

                    omitted.
