Special Pronoun Reference
Problem: This and Which
The pronouns this and which are so often used incorrectly that you
should check them every time you see them in your writing.
When you see the pronoun this in a sentence, particularly if it begins
the sentence, ask the question, “This what?” If you cannot put your
finger on a noun that answers that question, then this probably has no
antecedent.
Examples of Vague Uses of This
Many people in the world go to sleep hungry every night. With
better management of the world’s resources, we could do
something about this.
