because data can be stored in a central location, the cloud, where multiple

               users can access it.

               Adopting Service Models
               Companies can adopt various cloud service models for their exclusive use;
               this defines a private cloud.

               Private IaaS
One of the paths for adopting the cloud is through private IaaS, which is a
private cloud in a manner of speaking, as shown in Figure 4-1. The business

benefit of this approach is that it will allow server infrastructure to be
deployed much more rapidly, which will speed up test and development
               projects.

To realize this goal, an initial private cloud can be built. It might even be
possible to realize a pilot with existing hardware servers or acquired IT
resources, such as a SAN, capacity, or virtual network. It will be important

to create a standard-services catalog for this service; otherwise, the desired
high level of self-service will not be realized. Users of this type of
infrastructure should be subject to cost chargeback, based on an operational
               metering system.
To control unlimited growth of the number of virtual servers, the best
practice is to require every virtual server to have a finite lifetime, after

which it will automatically be deleted.
An IT organization that aims to deliver private IaaS must have substantial
competence in server virtualization because that is the underlying
               technology for IaaS.
