               Characteristics of Clouds and Cloud Services from a
               Business Perspective

               Cloud computing is a business model, so using cloud services will offer
               great advantages. When a business adopts cloud computing, the impact
               resonates throughout the entire organization. Users will notice an improved

               experience and will also enjoy the reduced cost of usage.

               Scalability
               In a typical organization, IT represents a large and fairly inflexible

               investment. Without cloud computing, upgrading IT capacity can take as long
               as weeks or months, and downsizing is quite difficult. In addition, the
               development and rollout of new applications can also take months. Buying
               and deploying servers, installing software on them, configuring them, and
               getting ready for production can take a good deal of time and money.

                             In the cloud, adding mailboxes, new servers, additional

               storage, and so on, is done via cloud provider web pages.

               Capacity Planning
               In the cloud, provisioning additional computing resources is quick and easy;
               plus, you pay only for the resources you use. Figure 2-3 shows the
               traditional IT performance and cost problems that are minimized with
               proper capacity planning.
