READY, SET, CAPITOL HILL!
Prep Session
GOODWILL ON THE HILL Advocates were prepped for their day on the Hill,
PROGRAM PARTICIPANT SPOTLIGHT: focusing on logistics, policy issues, talking points
and how to structure their meeting.
Brandon Ruth Advocates learned how to frame their conversations
with lawmakers as well as how best to appeal to
them using data and success stories. They received
a templated format for the meetings that included
timing, roles and speaking parts, and they engaged
in role-plays to train for their meetings with
members of Congress and staff.

Program Participant Training
While advocates were prepping, Goodwill
program participants underwent their own
training for sharing their personal perspectives
and experiences with legislators about how
Goodwill transformed their lives and helped
them care for themselves and their families.
To prepare them to advocate on behalf of
Goodwill, Goodwill Industries International (GII)
staff engaged in one-on-one training with the
program participants to help them practice
effectively telling their stories and become more
succinct with their storytelling.
GII has scholarships available to reimburse
Goodwill organizations for the costs associated
with sending a program participant and Watch, Read, Learn | Curated Content
accompanying team member to the event. 1. View the talking points.
2. Read the issue briefs:
• Funding
• Tax Reform
• Federal Contractor Back Pay
