In the main event, Tomac tried the line that has been working so well for Ryan Dungey all year long. He attempted to brake a little bit earlier than his competitors, stay tight to the inside of the corner, and use the superior traction of the Missouri dirt to to come out of the first turn within a shout of the lead. Instead, Tomac clipped a tuff block and caused a crash on the inside and ended up on the ground;
holding up Trey Canard, Chad Reed, Jake Weimer, and Jeff Alessi in the process. The exact scenario that Tomac was trying to prevent from unfolding happened in a split second. From that point on, it was just damage control for the number one rider at Monster Energy Kawasaki. He was able to salvage a 7th, but it still has to be demoralizing to finish over 40 seconds down from the guys that you expect to be battling.
