Coming into Atlanta Georgia for round 8 of the Monster Energy Supercross series, Eli Tomac had high hopes of turning his season around. His night started
out great as his Kawasaki 450 ripped out of the gate in heat race number 1. Entering the first turn in the lead, Eli was looking to check out when suddenly he was hit in the first rhythm section by Moto Concepts Honda rider Mike Alessi. Luckily he did not crash, but this caused Eli to roll the next few jumps and lose numerous positions. Working his way back to second place while setting the fastest lap time of the race, Eli looked ready to get back on the podium in the main event. An eighth place start in the main event forced Tomac to make moves quickly if he wanted to contend for a podium position. Possibly forcing the issue to much, Eli crashed on lap two and found himself in 20th place. This mistake ended all hopes of a podium finish. A strong effort by Tomac would get him back to an 11th place finish. Although he salvaged some points after his early mistakes, this was not the result he or his team were hoping for.
