Shane started the day off quiet. He rode solid in practice and qualified 11th going into the night show. It was race time and 250 Heat 2 was his race. They lined up
and were ready to go, Shane was 1 spot away from the the doghouse. As the gate flinched, many riders went, including Shane, and about 5 others who were complete-
ly stuck at the gate as the rest of the field took off. The red flag came out and they did a full re rack to drop the gate again. When the gate dropped the second time, McElrath was ready. A great start put him in second after the first corner and thats where he stayed for the rest of the race. He would go to the Main with con- fidence. When the Main Event began all eyes were on McElrath as he led the pack through the first corner. Shane somehow landed on the tuff blocks in the first rhythm section and unfortunately, his East Coast success was back to none. With 6 laps to go, Shane would pull off, cutting his night short in Atlanta.
