Alexander Frye made his professional supercross debut at the Atlanta this weekend. The young rookie with the support of Troy Lee Designs Red Bull KTM struggled in qualifying practice and came out with the 24th fastest time. Frye knew he had a lot to improve on before heading into the heat
race and he and his team aimed to make the proper adjustments.
In his first ever supercross gate drop, Frye rocketed out of the gate and into a prime 4th place posi- tion. A good start can easily calm the nerves of young riders and Frye calm as can be settled in and looked like a veteran out there. He held his own throughout the heat and put in solid laps while mini- mizing mistakes. Despite his smooth riding, he would lose one spot and finish 5th but it was a very impressive ride for the young gun and he looked ready to keep it up in the main event.
The main event would be up and down for Frye after he got off to a mediocre start. He came around lap one in 8th place and tried to lay down some clean laps. The bright lights and big stage of super- cross can be daunting and all that pressure may have gotten to Frye as he fell back to 11th at the midway point. But after getting shuffled back a few spots, Frye regrouped and charged up to 9th to make his first career race a top 10 finish. It was a great rookie debut for Frye and he will be looking to have a similar performance next weekend in Daytona.
